What is Dubai Run?

Dubai Run is the flagship event of the Dubai Fitness Challenge, now in its 10th edition. One morning a year, the city's main artery shuts down and tens of thousands of people run up the middle of it. Last year's edition drew a record turnout of around 307,000 runners, making it one of the largest community runs anywhere in the world. It is free, open to all abilities, and deliberately not a competitive race. Plenty of people walk it.

How to register for Dubai Run 2026

Important: signing up for the Dubai Fitness Challenge does not enter you into Dubai Run.

The 30x30 challenge sign-up and the Dubai Run booking are separate, and this trips up thousands of people every year. You need to do both.

When registration opens, the process is:

1. Create or sign in to your Dubai Fitness Challenge account at Dubai Fitness Challenge

The general 30x30 sign-up has been open since late September, and Dubai Run booking usually runs through the same account.

2. Open the Dubai Run event page and look for the Register button.

There are no paper entries and no registration on the day.

3. Choose your route — 5km or 10km.

4. Complete your entry details. In previous years, children under 13 had to be registered

by an adult, and 13 to 21 year olds could register individually with parental consent.

5. Save your QR code. This is what you exchange for your bib.

6. Collect your bib and T-shirt at Zabeel Park between 2 and 21 November. Without a bib

you will not be allowed onto the course.

When does Dubai Run 2026 registration open?

No date has been announced. In 2023 it opened on 17 October, and in 2025 it was open by late October. Mid-to-late October is the sensible expectation.

Entry is free but capped, and the event T-shirt allocation is finite — in past years it has run out. Register the day it opens rather than the week before the event.

The Routes

Both routes start on Sheikh Zayed Road and head through the heart of the city with the skyline on either side. The 5km is the family and first-timer option and is comfortably walkable. The 10km suits anyone with a regular running habit.

Exact start points, finish lines and road closure times for 2026 have not been published yet. In recent years the 10km has finished near DIFC and the 5km near Downtown. Pick your route honestly. The 10km in late November is pleasant running weather, but it is still 10km, and a packed start line is slower than you expect for the first kilometre.

How to train for it

You have around six weeks. That is enough to go from very little to a comfortable 5km, or from occasional running to a solid 10km — but only if you start now.

If you're aiming at the 5km and don't currently run: three sessions a week, alternating running and walking, building the running intervals week by week. Most people can cover 5km continuously within six weeks from a standing start.

If you're aiming at the 10km: three to four runs a week. One longer easy run that grows gradually, one session with faster intervals, and one or two easy runs. Add distance slowly — roughly 10% a week is the standard guidance, and the most common November injury in Dubai is someone doubling their mileage in a fortnight.

For everyone:

Use the weather. October and November mornings are the best running conditions Dubai gets. Train early and outdoors while you can.

Run the surface you'll race on. Sheikh Zayed Road is flat tarmac. Treadmill-only training leaves your legs unprepared for road.

Practise your race morning. Try your breakfast, your kit and your shoes on a long run first. Race day is not the time for new trainers.

Don't peak too early. Ease off in the final week. Nothing you do in race week makes you fitter.

Train with a running coach in Dubai

Six weeks with a plan beats six weeks of guessing, and a coach will also stop you doing the thing that ruins most first 10kms — running every session at the same middling pace. These

coaches on MyCoach work with runners:

Hooman — Personal Running Coach, Speed, Endurance & Performance A dedicated running coach focused on speed, endurance and performance. The most specialist option here if running is your main goal rather than one part of general fitness. Trains clients at home, in English and Persian, from AED 350 per 60-minute session.

Tamara Dutt — Former Competitive Athlete, Tennis & Fitness Coach Ran for her university team with a 38-minute 10K to her name, and coaches running alongside strength and conditioning, boxing and mobility. A strong fit if you're chasing a 10km time rather than just finishing. Level 3 qualified, at-home sessions in English, from

AED 350.

Yulia Khotkovskaya — Personal Trainer for Women 40+, Strength, Fitness & Confidence Competitive background in running, Spartan and DEKA events, and regularly coaches women through a first 5K. Builds endurance alongside strength and mobility, with attention to knees, hips and posture. REPs UAE certified, at-home sessions in English, Russian and Chinese, from AED 300.
